About the Artist
Born in Sydney, Michelle Young resides in the inner west with her young family with her studio located nearby in Camperdown. Michelle discovered her passion for photography in high school when she picked up her first camera and quickly had work published. This led to Michelle undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Communication: Photography + Digital Imaging degree at university and a lifelong passion for the art of photography.
Working as one of Sydney’s leading photographers, Michelle quickly became well-known for her knowledge of traditional photography and love of black + white images. She became an ambassador for young photographers and assistants for the ACMP (Advertising Commercial Magazine Photographers) for many years creating workshops, seminars, a register, phone support and exhibitions.
With a successful early career working across the fashion, interiors and lifestyle photography industries, Michelle welcomed her two boys into the world and came back to her love of fashion by being commissioned to shoot major children’s fashion and advertising campaigns by multiple children’s fashion + lifestyle brands. She now works as one of Sydney’s leading commercial kids’ fashion and lifestyle photographer, with a long list of reputable clients. Her clients have included; Love to Dream, Bellamy’s Organics, Best + Less, Sooki Baby, Boody, Osh Kosh, Luna Park, Wallpaper, Vogue Living, New Idea, Better Homes and Gardens, House & Garden, Qantas and Jetstar, just to name a few.
Her love of children and traditional photography, particularly black + white, is clear in her work and has led her to wanting to share this passion with more than just the commercial world. The love of art and fashion are what influences Michelle, driven by the masters in traditional analogue photography while inspired by the old masters of paint and light and also a range of contemporary fashion photographers.
